America!...The Red, White & Blue was created in 2006 as a direct response to the rising Islamophobia in media narratives. This work challenges the damaging label of "Dangerous Terrorists" and its effects on innocent members of the Muslim community.

Through vibrant images that reflect the colors of the American flag, I employ harsh gazes and subtle gesture to dispel misplaced fears stemming from the unknown. The flag’s ideals of (red) “strength & courage”, (white) “purity and innocence”, and (blue) “justice, vigilance, and perseverance”, prompt critical reflection: Do these values genuinely extend to all citizens? Are marginalized groups confronted with a different reality shaped by historical inequities?

Integrating Islamic symbolism and featuring a Black Muslim woman, this series invites viewers to engage in conversations about identity and belonging. Each piece serves as a lens to explore whose narratives are celebrated and whose experiences are marginalized, challenging perceptions and fostering understanding in the ongoing pursuit of justice and equality.
